Handbook of Colon Classification

This "Handbook of Colon Classification" gives practical guidelines in classifying documents using the sixth edition of colon classification. The first section introduces a set of starting points to understand some of the essential principles and postulates of colon classification, the main features on the general layout of the schedules including the methods of facet analyses and synthesis. The eight step method for classifying documents provide a systematic way of analysing the subject contents of the documents to identify them as manifestation of the five fundamental categories, synthesise them in accordance with rules and proedures to form the number building. The facet formula of the main classes are explained and the various techniques are described, as applicable to the respective classes. Graded examples and number of excercises have been provided, under each chapter, to help the students and practicing librarians in understanding the methodology of classifying the documents with CC. Published books, articles, and reports, etc., have been given as examples and excercises. It is hoped that this handbook will be equally useful for students, teachers and practitioners.
