By the late 1990's when information was regularly disseminated across computers and other electronic devices, information managers found themselves tasked with increasingly complex devices. The information Communication Technology (ICT) revolution in the last decade has had a drastic and far-reaching impact on all aspects of professional endeavour particularly in the knowledge and information sector. Information Management (IM) is characterised by the phrase 'Getting the right information to the right person at the right place at the right time'. Present society is moved to knowledge-based society for which information is of primary importance. In 21st century, Information play an important role into the cultural, political, social, scientific, and technological development of a society. Information is the key resource of productivity and growth of any organization. In this changing context, library professionals are facing lot of challenges to capture, process, store, and disseminate the information for society. Due to revolution of technology, the information services have increased their variety and quantity and refined in their quality.
Information management (IM) is a crucial job for the library professionals in the new era... Library professionals are now being challenged by the new environment which demands changes in their styles, attitude and skills towards information handling. The traditional aproaches to information processing and organisation are undergoing transformation due to rapid advances in the area of information technologies, electronic resources and telecommunication. Information Technology has tremendously changed the role of library to information centre and Librarian to Information manager.
This book helps the library professionals to better understand how to manage the information in the new environment. The book would be a valuable resource for the librarians, academics and professionals involved with managing information. It would also be immensely useful for students pursuing master degrees and doctoral work in the area be immensely useful for students pursuing master degrees and doctoral work in the area of information management. Mr. Ashok Kumar Sahu is currently Chief Librarian at IIMT-Oxford Brookes University, Gurgaon. He has 14 years of professional experience in various libraries. He is M. Phil. in Library & Inf. Science and is currently pursuing Ph. D. from Berhampur University, Orissa. He has written several papers for national/ international journals and conferences. He is the life member of ILA & MANLIBNET. He has involved in managing the international journal "Journal of Services Research". he has also coordinated several international conferences. He has immense experience in managing electronic databases and has been an advisor on information rexsources to management faculty on several management project. His areas of interests are Library Administration, Information Management, Library Computerization, and Digital Library.
