the use of computers has been steadily increasing in Science and Technology
since the Second World War. India has just made a start, especially in industry
and business. Libraries are no exception to them. As the Library authorities and
librarians are becoming aware of their potential uses, these ale being put to
more use. So that not only some courses in computer applications are being
arranged regularly by the private sector, but they are finding their pride place
in Library science courses also. There have been very rapid changes in computer
technology. The developments will have immense impact on the storage and
retrieval of information in Libraries. It is hoped that by turn of the century,
India might have taken many leaps towards computerization of library operations,
there is now extra need to train such manpower which would be capable of
handling computer systems for information processing and management.

V. C. Malavya has had a brilliant academic career. In 1964 he took Post
Graduate degree and was awarded the university distinction. He developed keen
insight into the Library Information System and also concerned with functions of
the library development. He has written many books on Library Management,
Library education and several papers on Information Services. Malavya has
contributed more than forty research papers and articles to reputed journals and
has guided research work at the doctorate level.
